v8.1 Released 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
User Features
Member Filters - This feature existed in previous versions as "lookup filters" and was removed from the initial v8.0 release due to time constraints. It has now been added as "Member Filters and works much like a search for long member lists. The added advantage in v8.1 over previous releases is the ability to now work against levels as well extending the capabilities of the member filter considerably. See the attached document "v8.1 updates.doc" for additional information.

Measure Groups - SQL 2005 increased the number of Measures allowed in a cube and at the same time introduced the idea of Measure Groups to allow cube designers the ability to group together like measures. v8.1 now supports measure groups within the measures filter box. See the attached document "v8.1 updates.doc" for additional information.

Background Grid Colors - For many years we have been asked to support Analysis Services ability to define cell background colors _base_d on cube defined business rules. With the new architecture introduced in v8.0 we are now able to take full advantage of this Analysis Services feature in both 2000 and 2005. Further, we have also added to the column menu the ability for users to define their own thresholds for background colors on any report created within SwiftKnowledge. See the attached document "v8.1 updates.doc" for additional information.

Info Page - A new icon has been added to the report toolbar that displays report specific information. Standard information like the report _title_, who created the report, the data source, etc are include for every report. Also, slice values, sorts, value filters, and member filters may be displayed if they exist on a report. The info page is also included as the last page in a printed report so the information about what has been filtered is not lost when printing.

EXT Library - The EXT library is a development toolkit that allows us to implement many standard interface controls that work in both Firefox and Internet Explorer without requiring separate code for each browser. It also includes a host of interesting features that we can take advantage of in far less time than we could develop ourselves. This is the first step in bringing the code together into a browser independent release that would allow us to support a broader range of browsers. From a user perspective these changes represent small modifications to the look of the application, all components still function the same.

Tabs - Tabs found on the dashboard, within settings boxes, and within filter boxes have all been converted to use the EXT library.

Content Menus - All Content menus throughout the application have been converted to use the EXT library.

Save As Tree View - The Save As dialog box has been converted to use EXT forms and takes advantage of a new tree view that is now available.

Message Boxes - All message boxes have been converted to the new EXT library.

View Query - For users with the "Report Writer" right there is now the option on the main report menu to view the existing query. We have found this option very helpful in both the creation of custom reports and in trouble shooting builder reports.

Administrative Features
Save to group SwiftViews - Users with the Site, Group, or Role administrator rights will now see a "SwiftView" tab in the Save As dialog window. This tab allows you to place the saved report on multiple dashboards during the save action rather than being forced to drag reports from the menu later.

Manage Application Settings
- The ability to manage application settings through the site was dropped from the original v8.0 release due to time constraints. This management page has been added once more with a new look.

Enhanced Manage Reports - We have taken advantage of some of the new grid functions within the EXT library, and added a couple of additional columns. The manage report screen now allows for grouping and sorting, and includes who last modified a report so you can identify the creator. See the attached document "v8.1 updates.doc" for additional information.

Enhanced Manage Logs
- The manage logs screen also takes advantage of EXT grid controls to include sorting and grouping.

Phone Home
- For our own internal tracking purposes we have included a module that will post messages to Amazon messaging service upon application startup. Information transfered during start up includes; License key, server name, virtual directory name, number of CPUs. In the future this function may be enhanced to allow for sending of log files to SwiftKnowledge, or even automating updates.

_xml_ Editing colorization - Editing report _xml_ is now color coded to allow report writers the ability to identify tags, attributes, properties, and values much easier.

Fixed reported issues

Meter threshold issues - When creating a meter with more than 3 thresholds, and leaving one of the boundaries blank to indicate infinity, the original default value would be placed in the empty box when editing the meter. This has been fixed to maintain the user defined settings on edit.
Localization on Drill through _link_s - Drill through _link_s where always being localized with the English translation regardless of the language selected. This has now been updated to use the language selected by the user.

dotNET Charting watermark on e-mailed images - previously any meter or chart created through the skemailer.exe application contained the dotnetcharting watermark even though a valid license existed. Licensing constraints have been worked out with the vendor and this is now fixed.

Apostrophe in member names
- previously member names with apostrophes would cause query errors. This has now bee fixed.

Access to Data_base_ Management - In some cases registering a data_base_ using SQL authentication could cause the data_base_ administration screen to become unavailable. This has now been fixed and the data_base_ administration screen has no issues with SQL authentication.

Memberlist variables on custom SQL - The use of memberlist variables (Cube Hierarchies) on a custom SQL report was causing problems. This is now supported.

Modify My Profile - The modify my profile page, most often used to change user passwords, was not saving any changes made. This is now working as expected.
E-mailed reports - When e-mailing reports reports the original report was being overwritten even if th user sending the e-mail did not have the right to save a report. This has been updated so that when selecting the e-mail option a copy of the original report is saved in the users My Folder and the original report is untouched.

FF Navigation Menu access - There has been an intermittent issue where the navigation menu would not open when using FireFox. We believe this issue to be fixed.
